Day 5

The gamejam is over. We managed to get almost everything in we wanted and by the end we had an actual game. A little buggy and not as fluid as we were hoping but it all worked.

The morning was spent checking off my to do list. Fixing bugs and adjusting collision, the pause and main menu were added, the jump and fall animations were implemented. Along with these the final collectable helmet was added, the story was implemented as a series of discoverable diary entries and a final detailing pass was completed, adding more pillars, statues and fences to detail the level.

We were able to build the executables by getting administrator login right but even then we had to load unreal in administrator mode just to get the build working. But we were able to get it all done in time for a play testing session.

We didn't manage to get the sound effects in which was a letdown. We had them all ready but due to the way the objects spawn and despawn the sounds didn't start.

The player feedback we had was really positive, though there were a few bugs discovered. I had to adjust the space ibg positions as some overlapped doorways, stopping the player from being able to progress. I made a new version correcting this error but a few bugs remain. The heavy enemies don't despawn when you die and occasionally the doors won't unlock after clearing a room.

People were enjoying the game though which is what matters. We had a few players get all the way through to the end of the game and one who even hunted down every helmet hidden in the level. The caliber of games this year at the gamejam was extremely high and I was so impressed with how everyone worked and what they produced. It's been a fantastic year and I look forward to returning next year.
