A downloadable Solo RPG

A flash of colour and the crackle of lightning are the last things you remember before dust clouded your vision. You clamber to your feet and survey your surroundings. Sand as far as you can see, and an eerie song on the wind. Wherever you came from doesn't matter now. All that matters if you're here, you are low on supplies and the air is getting hotter as the minutes pass. It's time to move.

The Singing Sands is a rules-lite RPG for solo play and worldbuilding. It contains all the rules for a single player to  enter the desert and begin their journey alongside oracle tables to help set the scene around you.

To play you will keep a journal of your encounters, building the world from the eyes of your character. Your character skills and keywords will influence the Dice Pool which is used to check the success of failure of your actions.

Use the blank Hex map to track your journey and build your own desert or use the prebuilt map for the Mirrored Tower adventure.

Upon purchasing you will gain access to the rules pdf in both colour and black & white, spread layouts for screen reading and a blank hex map & character sheet for printing.

Not a bad game in terms of mechanics, but unfortunately for me, the game looks empty and pointless, which is easily remedied by some add-on like "Table fables" and the introduction of a game master to some degree. Also, a few questions came up for me while playing the game:

1. What would be the outcome of a pool of 1,1,1,3,4?;

2. How many items can be carried at the same time, because without this information the backpack looks doubtful, and also the pool of cubes can grow to such a size, in the first half of the game, that in the second half, we will easily get a positive outcome?

A games master could work but it was mainly designed as a solo game which requires a level of creativity, creative writing and willingness to let the story unfold instead of being a heavily mechanically driven game.

For 1 I would say that is a failure as the pool is heavily skewed to a massive failure. And for 2 there is no limit but you should be thinking narratively about what your character can carry. without a backpack a character would not be able to carry armfuls of items else they wouldn't be able move around or interact without dropping items and picking them up.

But at the end of the day it is a narrative game it is down to you how you want to do it. When I play im more focused on creating an interesting story instead of being beholden to rigid mechanical structure.

Hi! I would really like to try to play this game, but unfortunately I can't pay with dollars. Will you be able to add community copies soon, please?

Added a handful of community copies so feel free to grab one!

Thank you very much!

I highly recommend the physical copy - high quality zine and easy-to-read layout.  Besides being a wonderful adventure framework!
